You fix things by reporting the doctor even if no one believes you. You fix things by walking away from the commission. You fix things by holding him accountable for his actions even if the result and the public might not be on your side. That's how we change things.

And you're changing things by writing this essay. Girls need to read essays like these. When I went out into the world, I just thought good girls have nice things and since my parents made me out to be bad, I got bad things in the world. I never realized that it wasn't me.

You also change things by self-reflection. I think it's important to ask why you sought the MSG's respect and approval. As girls, we are often taught to seek other people's approval. That our self worth is in other people's hands. But this kind of thinking leads girls into very dangerous situations without ever knowing it.
