Hi!

Thanks for reading and for leaving your feedback.

If I am taking Oedipus Rex literally, so are all of the literary critics and teachers that come before me. If they can use Oedipus as an example of "hubris," and having a "fatal flaw," then I can also use the example of his parents piercing his feet as child abuse. Moreover, Oedipus Rex is often alluded to as "The Oedipus Complex," so it is very much used not only in literature but psychology and theories about incest.

Very often, religion is interpreted literally, especially by the religious right.

I do not understand what you're trying to say in your points regarding people watching a day of comedy, etc.

I like your point about original sin, and that is something to factor in. I do think that original sin has more to do with "the father's sins are visited upon the son." Based on my current understanding and knowledge of psychology, future generations will repeat unhealed wounds from the family unconsciously. This is why victims of abuse or incest are rarely the first one in their family. Abuse and incest are usually passed down from generation to generation. But this is learned behavior and learned thought processes, not fatal flaws that children are born with. Thanks for bringing up this point!
